Savithri Lakshmanan
Savithri Lakshmanan is a retired Indian Foreign Service Officer who served as Ambassador of India to the Kyrgyz Republic from January 2017 to August 2018. As an ambassador to an important country in India’s extended neighborhood of Central Asia, she contributed to the furthering of bilateral relations and promoting Indian interests in the region.
From November 2013 to December 2016, Savithri served as India’s Representative to the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu. This was a unique opportunity which allowed her to travel to countries throughout the SAARC region to promote cooperation among them.
During her 33-year career in the foreign service, Savithri served in MEA headquarters on many important desks in various capacities including Public Diplomacy, Americas, Central Asia, Nepal and Bhutan. Her postings abroad included the United States (Chicago), Nepal and South Korea.
Savithri earned her BSc (Honors) in Physics and MSc in Physics from Hindu College, University of Delhi, and a Diploma in Diplomatic Studies from Oxford University.
