Monica Zhang
Ms. Monica Zhang received her bachelor’s degree in applied teaching and development from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, and her master’s degree in applied linguistics and TESOL from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. With over a decade of teaching experience in different parts of the world, Ms. Zhang is passionate about holistic teaching practices and enjoys working with youth, young adults, and English-language teachers. Her interests include social and cultural anthropology, sociolinguistics, hiking, long-distance running, and teaching youth to bring positive change in their communities.
Ms. Zhang’s Fulbright project is developing a curriculum aimed at cultivating dynamic future leaders. It focuses on the importance of integrity, humility, empathy, cultivation of authentic relationships, and the ability to keep learning new things and reinventing oneself. The curriculum is a collection of cross-cultural activities developed with the purpose of immersing students in a comprehensive learning experience where students and teachers engage in deep, meaningful conversations, whether it be within the classroom setting or through mentor–mentee interactive activities.
